When Brittany Page retired from her illustrious volleyball career in the spring of 2016, she wasn’t exactly sure what would be next for her. She had just spent the past ten years travelling the world, while playing professionally overseas and captaining the women’s national team. However, as her career wound down she knew retirement was eminent and at the onset, returned home to the Okanagan Valley, where she had grown up. She was ready to retire but moving back home in your thirties is never an easy transition.
Connecting with her advisor, former CSIP advisor, Natalie O’Leary, was a major turning point during this time. Natalie provided support and guidance as Brittany began to walk along her career exploration path. In addition to this, Brittany attended the inaugural Game Plan Summit in 2016. She credits many of the sessions and stories shared by fellow athletes during the Summit in helping her combat the overwhelming feelings of “what now” and was able to realize that everyone else was facing the same challenges as her!
Eventually, Brittany choose to go into sales; with her competitive spirit, friendly demeanour and charismatic approach, it was the perfect fit! She started in a part-time position at a sales centre to begin building her resume before connecting with her current employer, Moneris. It took a few months for Brittany to begin to see the parallels between her new profession and former professional volleyball career. However, once she was able to identify these parallels, she able to be natural and thrived utilizing her personality and relentless will to succeed.
Brittany exudes passion when discussing her current role at Moneris. She directly attributes much of the success she has had off the court, to the amazing team she has surrounded herself with at the workplace. In particular, Brittany would like to recognize the incredible support and mentorship her manager, Steve McCrea, has given her.
Today, Brittany Page is no longer known in Kelowna as just Brittany the volleyball girl, she has become Brittany the Moneris girl, and this is just fine with her! She is looking forward to continuing to build stability in life, while constantly giving back to her community.
